1. What is coaching?
Coaching, much like professional sports coaching, helps individuals achieve results far beyond what they can on their own. Coaching provides speed, accountability and perspective - to get you out of your own way and into amazing action and results in your life. You get the tools to create transformational shifts on an ongoing basis in your career and life long after coaching ends.
Coaching also provides businesses with a very effective way to improve the quality, leadership of managers, increase morale, employee retention and productivity.
Coaching can benefit everyone, not just CEO’s and professional athletes.
2. What is business coaching? How is it different than life coaching?
Business coaching focuses primarily on business related goals. These projects look at increasing profits, revenue or other business goals. Business coaches usually have a corporate business or financial background as well as coaching experience. Life coaching encompasses an array of issues such as marriage, relationship, stress, work / life balance or general unhappiness. They typically do not focus or specialize in business projects, although their clients may sometimes have a money component to their projects.
3. How can coaching benefit me?
Coaching can benefit everyone. Coaching allows you to move beyond where you usually stop into amazing progress. It can often shave years off getting a company to profitability or allow you to take your company far beyond its current limitations.
4. How do I choose a coach?
The most important part of choosing a coach how you relate to the coach. Are you able to relate to your coach and can you allow her to make a difference in your life?
There are other factors to consider as well:
- What do you want to get out of the coaching?
- What are your goals?
- How much accountability do you need?
- What type of projects are your goals? Does it matter if the coach has no experience in your field?
- Do you care about qualifications and experience? If so, make sure you ask.
- What is the coach’s training? Is it important to you that they be ICF -accredited or have just had training?
- Does expertise in the field matter? For example if you are looking to double or triple your earnings in a short period of time, does it matter that the coach has sales and marketing or Customer Service experience.
- Have you ever experienced coaching? Does the coach provide free consultations so that you can experience it before you decide that coaching is right for you?
- Does the coach have testimonials from other clients? References you can use?
5. How do I find a coach?
There are many resources for finding good coaches. There is the International Coach Federation (ICF) website, the Professional Coaches Association of Michigan or other coaches. Perhaps the best way is by referrals from friends and business. Always meet with at least a few coaches before you make a decision. Determine how you will rate the coaches right up front before you meet with anyone.
